No technique can guarantee they will not develop, but implant volume, the tension placed on the skin, and individual susceptibility help us assess the risk.<\/p>\n<\/header>\n<section class=\"aso-striae__answer\" aria-labelledby=\"respuesta-estrias-aumento\">\n    <span class=\"aso-striae__label\">The short answer<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"respuesta-estrias-aumento\">Can stretch marks develop after breast augmentation?<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Yes, but this is not usual.<\/strong> In a published cohort of 538 breast augmentations, 7.06% of patients developed new stretch marks. Risk was higher in younger women, smokers, those with a low or normal body mass index, and when implants larger than 300 ml were used.<sup><a href=\"#fuente-1\" aria-label=\"View source 1\">1<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>That figure describes one particular series, not the exact risk for every patient. They are linked to a combination of mechanical tension, hormonal changes, genetic predisposition, and changes in the collagen and elastin matrix. They are not open wounds or an infection: they behave like a form of dermal scarring.<sup><a href=\"#fuente-2\" aria-label=\"View source 2\">2<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<div class=\"aso-striae__cause-grid\">\n<article>\n        <span>Growth<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Puberty and adolescence<\/h3>\n<p>Rapid breast development can stretch skin that is still very tight. Breast stretch marks are therefore common in women who have never had surgery.<\/p>\n<\/article>\n<article>\n        <span>Hormonal and volume changes<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Pregnancy and breastfeeding<\/h3>\n<p>Breast size may increase and decrease substantially. Skin elasticity and the extent of the change matter more than breastfeeding alone.<\/p>\n<\/article>\n<article>\n        <span>Rapid stretching<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Weight, muscle development, or breast volume<\/h3>\n<p>Rapid weight fluctuations, substantial growth, or augmentation can place more tension on the dermis than it can tolerate.<\/p>\n<\/article>\n<article>\n        <span>Less common situations<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Corticosteroids and medical causes<\/h3>\n<p>Prolonged corticosteroid use and some hormonal or connective-tissue disorders can also contribute. Very wide, purple stretch marks that appear without explanation warrant a medical assessment.<\/p>\n<\/article><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"aso-striae__types\" id=\"rojas-blancas\">\n<div class=\"aso-striae__types-heading\">\n      <span class=\"aso-striae__label\">Color helps identify the stage<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Red and white stretch marks are at different stages<\/h2>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"aso-striae__types-grid\">\n<article class=\"aso-striae__type aso-striae__type--red\">\n        <span>Striae rubrae<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Red, pink, or purple<\/h3>\n<p>These are more recent and retain a vascular and inflammatory component. Their color may be very noticeable at first, but this early stage usually offers more opportunities for improvement.<\/p>\n<\/article>\n<article class=\"aso-striae__type aso-striae__type--white\">\n        <span>Striae albae<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>White or pearly<\/h3>\n<p>These are mature, paler, atrophic lesions. The incision, prepectoral or subpectoral placement, and commercial name of the technique do not explain stretch marks by themselves. What matters particularly is the relationship between <strong>the added volume and the skin envelope&#8217;s capacity to stretch<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>A large implant does not necessarily cause stretch marks, and a small one does not offer zero risk. The same number of cubic centimeters creates different tension depending on chest width, starting volume, tissue thickness, elasticity, age, and existing stretch marks.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"aso-striae__evidence\">\n<div class=\"aso-striae__evidence-number\"><strong>7.06%<\/strong><span>in a cohort of 538 patients<\/span><\/div>\n<div>\n<h3>A useful reference, not an individual prediction<\/h3>\n<p>The study found higher risk in younger patients, smokers, slimmer patients, and those with implants above 300 ml. It does not mean all implants above that volume cause stretch marks, or that they are impossible below it.<sup><a href=\"#fuente-1\" aria-label=\"View source 1\">1<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"aso-striae__section\" id=\"factores-riesgo\">\n    <span class=\"aso-striae__label\">Susceptibility matters as much as the implant<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Who has a higher risk of stretch marks after surgery?<\/h2>\n<div class=\"aso-striae__risk-grid\">\n<article><span>01<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Younger age and very tight skin<\/h3>\n<p>In the published cohort, risk increased between ages 22 and 28 and was higher still at 21 or younger. Younger tissues may offer more resistance to sudden expansion.<\/p>\n<\/article>\n<article><span>02<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Existing stretch marks<\/h3>\n<p>Pronounced stretch marks during puberty, pregnancy, or weight changes suggest individual susceptibility, although they cannot reliably predict what will happen.<\/p>\n<\/article>\n<article><span>03<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>More volume and less coverage<\/h3>\n<p>Thin skin or a small breast must adapt proportionally more to the same implant. We therefore choose dimensions and volume according to anatomy, not a number alone.<\/p>\n<\/article>\n<article><span>04<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Smoking<\/h3>\n<p>Smoking was associated with a higher incidence in the published series and also harms wound healing and general health. We recommend stopping smoking before any surgery.<\/p>\n<\/article>\n<article><span>05<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Later changes<\/h3>\n<p>Pregnancy, a major weight change, or future hormonal changes can cause new stretch marks even if the original operation healed perfectly.<\/p>\n<\/article>\n<article><span>06<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Hormonal and genetic factors<\/h3>\n<p>Research suggests susceptibility is not solely about stretching. The response of the dermis and the hormonal context also play a role.<sup><a href=\"#fuente-3\" aria-label=\"View source 3\">3<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<\/article><\/div>\n<aside class=\"aso-striae__note aso-striae__note--coral\">\n<h3>Existing stretch marks do not mean you cannot have surgery<\/h3>\n<p>We explain that risk may be higher and tailor the volume particularly carefully, but stretch marks alone are not a contraindication or a reason to rule out breast surgery.<\/p>\n<\/aside>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"aso-striae__preservation\" id=\"mia-preserve\">\n<div class=\"aso-striae__preservation-heading\">\n      <span class=\"aso-striae__label\">Limited-volume augmentation and tissue preservation<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Do mia Femtech or Preserv\u00e9 prevent stretch marks?<\/h2>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>They cannot guarantee this.<\/strong> \u201cMinimally invasive\u201d describes how we create the pocket and preserve tissue, but stretch marks form in the skin as it stretches. The practical advantage, particularly with mia, is that we use limited volumes.<\/p>\n<div class=\"aso-striae__tech-grid\">\n<article class=\"aso-striae__tech-card aso-striae__tech-card--mia\">\n        <span>165\u2013195 cc<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>mia Femtech<\/h3>\n<p>All implants we use are below 200 cc. With such limited expansion, we expect a very low risk of new stretch marks because less additional tension is placed on the skin; this is not a measured comparative risk estimate.<\/p>\n<p>        <a href=\"https:\/\/www.doctoraso.es\/en\/mia-femtech-breast-augmentation\/\">Explore mia Femtech \u2192<\/a><br \/>\n      <\/article>\n<article class=\"aso-striae__tech-card aso-striae__tech-card--preserve\">\n        <span>200\u2013320 cc<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Preserv\u00e9<\/h3>\n<p>It allows a wider range, so the theoretical risk may be somewhat higher than with mia. We still need to assess skin quality: a 225 cc Preserv\u00e9 procedure is not equivalent to one near the upper end of the range we use.<\/p>\n<p>        <a href=\"https:\/\/www.doctoraso.es\/en\/preserve-breast-augmentation\/\">Explore Preserv\u00e9 \u2192<\/a><br \/>\n      <\/article>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<aside class=\"aso-striae__experience\">\n      <span>Dr. Aso&#8217;s clinical experience<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>So far, we have not observed new stretch marks with either technique<\/h3>\n<p>We have not seen this complication in our current experience with mia or Preserv\u00e9. This is reassuring, but does not prove zero risk or replace an individual assessment. In our practice, we recommend <strong>generous skin moisturization<\/strong> before and after surgery, once authorized by the team, to keep the skin comfortable as it adapts to mechanical stress. We always explain that this does not guarantee prevention and that preventive evidence is weak.<sup><a href=\"#fuente-2\" aria-label=\"View source 2\">2<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<div class=\"aso-striae__prevention-grid\">\n<article><span>Planning<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Choose a proportionate volume<\/h3>\n<p>This is the most logical preventive decision: adapt width, projection, and volume to the breast and tissue quality.<\/p>\n<\/article>\n<article><span>Skin<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Moisturization without promises<\/h3>\n<p>It may improve dryness, superficial flexibility, and comfort. It should not be marketed as proven protection against dermal damage.<\/p>\n<\/article>\n<article><span>Health<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Do not smoke; avoid rapid fluctuations<\/h3>\n<p>Stopping smoking and maintaining a stable weight benefits surgery and avoids adding further stretching and healing factors.<\/p>\n<\/article>\n<article><span>Expectations<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Recognize susceptibility<\/h3>\n<p>We review existing stretch marks and explain the risk. Neither good moisturization nor a particular technique can fully change the skin&#8217;s genetic characteristics.<\/p>\n<\/article><\/div>\n<aside class=\"aso-striae__note aso-striae__note--blue\">\n<h3>Contraceptives are not a preventive treatment<\/h3>\n<p>One study observed fewer stretch marks in women already taking oral contraceptives, but this was an association. We do not recommend starting, stopping, or changing hormonal treatment to prevent stretch marks.<\/p>\n<\/aside>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"aso-striae__action\" id=\"si-aparecen\">\n<div class=\"aso-striae__action-heading\">\n      <span class=\"aso-striae__label\">Act early without manipulating the implant<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>What to do if red stretch marks appear after surgery<\/h2>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"aso-striae__steps\">\n<article><span>01<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<h3>Contact your surgical team<\/h3>\n<p>A red line on the skin may be a stretch mark, but it should also be distinguished from irritation, an adhesive reaction, or an inflammatory problem.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<article><span>02<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<h3>Arrange an early dermatology assessment<\/h3>\n<p>Once recent stretch marks are confirmed, we recommend an early dermatology review to decide whether laser treatment is indicated and which device best suits the stage and skin type.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<article><span>03<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<h3>Coordinate treatment with recovery<\/h3>\n<p>Treatment must respect the incision and breast healing. There is no identical timeline for everyone: the surgeon and dermatologist decide when the skin is ready.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<article><span>04<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<h3>Keep expectations realistic<\/h3>\n<p>Stretch marks usually fade spontaneously over time, and treatment can improve color or texture, but we cannot promise disappearance.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"aso-striae__section\" id=\"tratamientos\">\n    <span class=\"aso-striae__label\">The indication depends on the stage and skin type<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Current treatments to improve stretch marks<\/h2>\n<p>The literature includes many devices, topical products, and combinations because there is still no gold-standard treatment that works equally well for everyone. Recent reviews report variable results and few instances of complete disappearance.<sup><a href=\"#fuente-4\" aria-label=\"View source 4\">4<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<div class=\"aso-striae__treatment-grid\">\n<article>\n        <span>Red stretch marks<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Treat color and early activity<\/h3>\n<p>Selected vascular or fractional lasers may reduce redness and stimulate remodeling. The choice depends on color, skin, and the postoperative stage.<\/p>\n<\/article>\n<article>\n        <span>White stretch marks<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Improve texture and contrast<\/h3>\n<p>Fractional lasers, microneedling, and fractional radiofrequency aim to stimulate collagen. The response is usually partial and may require several sessions.<sup><a href=\"#fuente-5\" aria-label=\"View source 5\">5<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<\/article>\n<article>\n        <span>Topical treatments<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Only in selected cases<\/h3>\n<p>Small studies have assessed tretinoin for recent stretch marks, but it is not a harmless cosmetic cream or a treatment to use without medical advice. Its indication and contraindications must be assessed by a dermatologist.<sup><a href=\"#fuente-6\" aria-label=\"View source 6\">6<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<\/article>\n<article>\n        <span>Combinations<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Personalize rather than accumulate procedures<\/h3>\n<p>Some combinations appear promising, but protocols and outcomes are heterogeneous. They are common and do not, by themselves, imply disease.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/details>\n<details>\n<summary>Do red breast stretch marks turn white?<\/summary>\n<div>\n<p>They usually gradually lose their red or purple color and become paler. Although they may initially look more noticeable, recent stretch marks generally offer more opportunities for improvement than mature white ones.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/details>\n<details>\n<summary>What implant size causes stretch marks?<\/summary>\n<div>\n<p>There is no number separating safety from risk. One cohort found a higher incidence with implants above 300 ml, but actual tension also depends on the starting breast, width, elasticity, and tissue thickness.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/details>\n<details>\n<summary>Does mia Femtech guarantee no stretch marks?<\/summary>\n<div>\n<p>No. We use implants from 165 to 195 cc in our practice and have not observed new stretch marks so far. We expect a very low risk with this limited volume, but this is not a quantified guarantee and does not mean zero risk.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/details>\n<details>\n<summary>Does Preserv\u00e9 carry a higher risk than mia?<\/summary>\n<div>\n<p>Theoretically, somewhat, because it permits volumes from 200 to 320 cc. We have not observed this complication with Preserv\u00e9 so far either, but assessment becomes more individual as volume increases or the skin is tighter or more susceptible.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/details>\n<details>\n<summary>Does moisturizer prevent stretch marks?<\/summary>\n<div>\n<p>We recommend generous moisturization to keep the skin comfortable as it adapts to mechanical stress, but there is no strong evidence that a cream can guarantee prevention.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/details>\n<details>\n<summary>Can breast stretch marks be removed completely?<\/summary>\n<div>\n<p>No treatment guarantees removal. Red stretch marks may fade, and different techniques can improve color or texture; mature white ones are usually more resistant.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/details>\n<details>\n<summary>Can I have laser treatment with breast implants?<\/summary>\n<div>\n<p>In selected cases, yes, because treatment acts on the skin.
